Extreme Spring Clean For Your Room

So we are finally coming to the end of Winter, I know we have a few weeks left but the end is in sight! I find I normally feel very groggy and become a little messy, both in my mind and day-to-day life. In light of this, I thought it would be good to have a little chat about some ideas to make sure we all get back on the track we want to be!

I am very much one of those people who live by the mantra of "tidy desk, tidy mind". I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one, am I? If it's not your desk, let me guess- it's your chair? Oh, the dreaded chair. The place we all chuck things on to when we can't be bothered to put something away. But let me tell you, there's only so much your poor little chair can take. Now that the days are becoming that bit longer, we can't use the excuse of the darkness bringing our mood down- I am more than guilty of doing this. But, because of this, I find I have a little bit more motivation to get stuff done- so why shouldn't sorting out the floordrobe I call my room be one of them?

I find it so much easier to sort my things out if I have the room and storage facilities to do so. I recently brought this adorable box from paperchase, and it's proved so useful at keeping all those bits and bobs I keep on my desk organised, or just a good place to stash random little things you might have hanging about. I'm definitely going to get some more- they're so useful to have (and they look too cute)...

I know when I say this, many, if not all of you will cringe- It's probably time to do a wardrobe declutter. Yes, I know, you chuck it all in there in the hope that you won't have to face it. Sadly, we all have to face the wardrobe at some point. The best advice I can give is to just DO IT. There's no point in saying you're going to do it if you know you won't. Before you know it another year has gone by and the scary world of the wardrobe becomes scarier- it's a vicious circle. Trust me: been there, done that and have most definitely got the t-shirt. Take it ALL out and start making piles. Another tip is to make sure you have plenty of hangers. You're better off having too many than not enough. You might also want to start thinking about chucking some things. I often go with the rule of If you haven't worn it in a year- it goes. Otherwise, you will just keep buying stuff and have no room to put it, and we end up where we started. Be ruthless- I know you have it in you.

I often find that bribing myself works well, especially when it comes to the wardrobe situation! Go and make/ buy yourself a really nice coffee, or a chocolate bar or whatever will make you happy, and tell yourself that you can have a little bit of it when you reach a little target. It works surprisingly well.

Now, I know I mainly focused on the desk and wardrobe area, but this is because I know that the majority of us, myself included, are often guilty of neglecting them. Especially as students. But you can definitely put this into action elsewhere in your room, or in your house. Now is as good a time as any to be proactive- bring in the new season. Hellooooo Sping!
