The Importance of Checking

I was debating whether or not to write this post for a while, since it's a very personal topic for so many. But after a lot of thought, I decided that I should, especially since it's breast cancer awareness month.

I want to talk about boobs, and how important it is to check them regularly.
A few months back, I had a little bit of a scare after finding something that wasn't normal for me and my body. Thankfully it wasn't anything serious and ended up just being something caused by hormones and was nothing to worry about (silly hormones...), but it really brought home how important it is to make sure you get to know your body, your boobs and what is normal for them.

For so long this was a subject no one talked about, maybe because women weren't properly educated as to how to check, or what was out of the ordinary, but I'm glad to see a lot more women speaking out about it and using platforms such as blogs or youtube to do so.

If you're concerned or worried by any of it, please go and talk to someone. Be it your mum, sister, doctor- make sure your concerns are known by someone so they can keep an eye on you. And don't be scared to go to the doctor, even if you think it might be hormones or something along those lines, in this sort of case it is always better to be safe than sorry.
One question a lot of people have is: how do I check? Honestly, there is no right or wrong way to do so, just ensure you gage what is normal for you, both on and off of your period.

Although many women may think that you may not be at risk being young, you should still be checking regularly. Even if it is just for the sake of knowing what is normal for your body. Then, if anything does crop up that concerns you, you can go and get it checked out early and quickly.

One very big misconception is that men don't need to check, but I'm afraid you do. Just because you don't have 'boobs' per say, you still have breast tissue that may be at risk.

A very good charity to look into is Coppafeel. They're a great charity aiming to educate young girls and women about all things boobs, from sending you texts to remind you to check, to what it is exactly you should be checking for. All you questions can be answered there.

I know that this has been a fairly heavy post, but it's so important and isn't something that should be ignored.
